Most "gourmet" relish is tomato relish wearing a nicer label. This one's genuinely different — built on tamarillo, a tangy fruit so scarce that New Zealand now has fewer than thirty commercial growers left. Tamco's small Northland grower cooperative has spent over a decade turning it into something worth putting on your plate, not a novelty jar you buy once.
Tangy up front, a soft fruit sweetness underneath, spiced through with a blend of other selected fruits, vinegars and seasoning — built to sit alongside your food, not steamroll it.
Perfect on: cold cuts and cheeseboards, folded through a meatloaf or casserole mix, spread thin on a pizza base before it goes in the oven, or doing the job your usual sauce does next to a steak or snags off the barbie.
In the jar: a deep reddish-brown relish, thick and spoonable, flecked through with fruit — not a thin sauce, a proper table condiment.
Rub Hub's take: this is a genuinely rare ingredient — one of only a handful of producers making a tamarillo relish anywhere in the world, from a small family business in Northland, New Zealand. This is the jar that makes people ask "wait, what's IN this?" Shop the full Tamco range.
