SweetCheeks is Chud's answer to the classic sweet rib rub, and the difference is real maple powder instead of a wall of brown sugar. It's ground finer than the rest of the line on purpose — fine enough to melt into the surface of the meat rather than sit on top of it. That makes it two rubs in one bottle: a base coat for the long cook, and a finishing dust for right before it hits the board.
Sugar and maple lead — warm, rounded, genuinely mapley rather than generic sweet. Paprika brings colour and a soft earthiness underneath, garlic and turmeric keep it savoury enough to work on meat instead of dessert. There's no salt hit driving it, which is why it layers so well over a salted base without turning the cook into a salt lick.
A fine, deep red-brown powder — noticeably finer than ChudRub or SPG. It coats evenly and clings to a damp surface without needing a binder, and it goes tacky under low heat as the sugars start working, which is where that glossy finish comes from. Keep it away from screaming direct heat or the sugar will find the char before the meat does.
Ingredients: Sugar, Paprika, Maple Powder (Maple, Dextrose, Corn Starch, Ethyl Alcohol, Tricalcium Phosphate and Propylene Glycol), Spices, Turmeric, Garlic, Silicon Dioxide.
Dietary: Low sodium per the brand; Kosher certified by Whole Kosher Services. No gluten-containing ingredients are listed, though Chud's make no formal gluten-free claim on this blend — always check the physical label.
How hot is it? None — SweetCheeks is a sweet maple rub with no chilli in it at all.
Is it just brown sugar? No. It's built on real maple powder, which is what gives it that warm, rounded sweetness rather than the flat sugary hit you get from a sugar-heavy rub.
Can I use it as a finishing rub? Yes — that's the point of the finer grind. It works as a base rub for a long cook and as a final dusting right before serving.
Is it kosher certified? Yes — certified by Whole Kosher Services.
Where is it made? Blended in Austin, Texas.
Maple on ribs is one of those trades that pays every single time. Salt underneath, SweetCheeks over the top, low heat, and let the sugar do its quiet work. Glaze the back half with Blues Hog Original, then a few drops of Fancy Hanks Jalapeno & Peach to stop it going too sweet on you. Worth the customs risk.
